Nedbank is proud to be partnered with the Nelson Mandela Children’s
Fund to help change the way society treats its children. The Nedbank
Children’s Affinity supports children and youth – every
time you use the Children’s Affinity cards you support South
Africa’s children.
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund was founded in 1994 by
our former president, Nelson Mandela, when he met about 20 homeless
children outside a hotel on a cold night. The fund was established
to look after orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children. Since
then, under his chairmanship, the fund has grown into an international
charity organisation that supports projects aimed at improving the
quality of life of our country’s children and youth.
Since its inception the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, the
largest non-profit institution dedicated to children in South Africa,
has achieved the following:
- through its programmes the fund has helped increase the school
attendance of orphans and vulnerable children, and also developed
the skills of out-of-school youth.
- through its education programmes it helps the youth to lead
productive lifestyles and contribute to wealth creation. The
fund has supported over 31 000 orphans and vulnerable children
and has helped train nearly 30 organisations in psychosocial
care and support.
- through its support of a court support programme it assists
abused children who have to testify in court.
